Cool Canes Strut Their Stuff in Hollywood

With another award season upon us will we see a rising new trend in red carpet fashion in the form of canes? At this years Golden Globe awards Brad Pitt was sporting one due to an injury, making it one of the most talked about moments of the night!

Walking sticks don’t walk in Hollywood, they strut! And last March Cool Canes was doing just that during last years Academy Awards, when three of our designs found their way into the hands of a few famous faces such as Christopher Rich of CSI, Desperate Housewives and Boston Legal fame, photographed leaning on our gangster style Holeshot cane.

Canes on the Silver Screen

Walking canes and cinema have gone hand-in-hand since the early 1900’s. Some of Hollywood’s most memorable characters have been associated with their signature cane, staff or walking stick, reminding us that these fashionable and sporty accessories are much more than a mere mobility aid.

Canes throughout Hollywood History
  • One of Hollywood’s earliest stars in the 1920’s, Charlie Chaplin is well known for his iconic bowler hat and cane. His famous bamboo cane recently sold for $82,000 at a London auction.
  • Who can forget Hollywood dance-man Fred Astaire’s charming cane soloPuttin on the Ritz’ in the 1940’s film Blue Skies? The ingenious jumping cane routine was achieved with a concealed floor trigger mechanism.
  • In the darkly satirical science-fiction film A Clockwork Orangethe main character Alex (Malcolm McDowel) wields a cane with a knife concealed in the handle, akin to the London Dagger cane used by fictional sleuth Sherlock Holmes.
  • More recently, in the blockbuster Harry Potter films, the infamous Lucius Malfoy carries a walking stick that disguises his magic wand. Interestingly, this detail was created for the films only; there is no mention of a cane in the original Harry Potter books.

There are dozens of film and television characters who are inseparable from their canes. How many can you think of? Email us and let us know!  info@coolcanes.ca

Sir Elton John Receives ‘Cool Cane’

One of our favorite designs, The Musician, has become the property of Sir Elton John. We customized this fashion cane by making it the preferred color of purple (Hawaiian) and engraving the handle with their new baby’s name Zachary, as well as the initials EJ on the end, facing forward as he walks.  This is a beautiful piece and arrived in London, England this month – we hope to see Sir Elton John proudly using this cane as a fashion accessory in an upcoming public appearance.

Kind Words From Proud Cane Owners

Cane users experience 100% satisfaction with their new mobility accessories. Here’s one example:

Thank you very, very much. Your work exceeded every single one of my expectations and really helps this guy feel a lot less self conscious about my mobility issues. This turned a crutch I hated into an item I won’t leave home without!  I’m definitely coming back to you for my next one.
